Whether you're preparing dinner for your family, serving a charcuterie spread to guests, or displaying a handcrafted centerpiece on your countertop, the Aster End Grain Cutting Board is designed to be both a hardworking kitchen tool and a work of functional art.
I named this board Aster after the rare Kentucky Aster, a native wildflower that reflects the natural beauty and heritage of the Commonwealth. Inspired by both the flower and the intricate beauty found in nature, the centerpiece features a traditional chaos pattern, where hundreds of individually arranged hardwood blocks come together to create an intricate mosaic. At first glance, the pattern appears random, but every piece has its place, resulting in a design that reveals something new each time you look at it.
Crafted from hard maple, black walnut, padauk, purpleheart, cherry, and wenge, the vibrant colors come entirely from the natural wood itself without the use of dyes or stains, allowing the unique grain and character of each species to shine through. Three true end grain borders of black walnut and hard maple frame the intricate centerpiece, creating a bold contrast that draws your eye while highlighting the remarkable detail within.
Beautiful enough to display and built to be used, Aster is a one-of-a-kind piece that naturally becomes a conversation starter whenever family and friends gather around your table.
End grain construction is prized for its durability and knife-friendly surface. The wood fibers stand vertically, allowing the surface to better withstand years of everyday use while helping reduce wear on your knife edges.
Engraved handles on both ends make the board easy to lift and carry, while one-inch solid brass non-slip, non-marring feet provide stability, protect your countertops, and elevate the board for improved airflow beneath.
Every board is thoroughly conditioned with food-grade mineral oil, then protected with a hand-applied coat of natural beeswax, carefully buffed to a smooth satin finish. A complimentary 2 oz tin of Larson Wood Designs Board Butter is included to help keep your board looking its best for years to come.
